Choosing a healthcare provider is one of the most important decisions you can make. You want someone who is caring, knowledgeable and accessible.  At our practice, we pride ourselves on our patient service and care.  We offer a knowledgeable staff, resources to help you understand mental health diagnoses and treatments, and the latest in medication management.

We anticipate that you will find your involvement in treatment to be beneficial to you.  In order to maximize the effectiveness of our intervention it will be important for you to demonstrate a willingness to honestly discuss your symptoms, thoughts, feelings and behaviors with your clinician.  The goal of working together is to enhance your ability to deal with factors contributing to your present problems.  You will find that the process in moving toward this goal can sometimes feel unsettling while at other times freeing and comforting.

Due to your specific presenting issue you may require the expertise of more than one of our clinicians.  There may be occasions when your clinician may review your records with others within the practice that possess expertise that can assist in your treatment.  You will be required to grant specific permission in order for any of your confidential therapeutic information to be shared with anyone outside of Cornerstone Psychiatric Services inter-disciplinary team.

Sincerely,
David Donahue, D.O.

Psychiatric Assessment

This service is completed at your first visit with the clinician. Each individual receives a careful initial screening which includes obtaining a working knowledge of the client's family, social and medical history, specific symptoms, treatment history, current situational status, and current medical status.

We anticipate that you will find your involvement in treatment to be beneficial to you.  In order to maximize the effectiveness of your intervention it will be important for you to demonstrate a willingness to honestly discuss your symptoms, thoughts, feelings and behaviors with your clinician.  The goal of working together is to enhance your ability to deal with factors contributing to your present problems.  Depending on your specific needs, your treatment plan may include the need for psychotherapy or medication management or a combination of both.  Follow-up medication monitoring is provided by the clinician as needed to ensure early recognition of factors indicating a need for medication dosage adjustments or a medication change all together.  This initial visit session is about a hour long.  If you would like to schedule a new patient appointment, please contact our office at (941) 488-8884.

Evaluation and Management Services including Medication Management

Our clinicians provide ongoing E&M and medication management utilizing the most current standards of practice in the field of psychiatry.  Medications are selected based on the awareness that each individual has a unique biological makeup that is more or less responsive to different classes of medications and medications within the respective class being used.  Ongoing monitoring of an individual's response to his or her medication(s) provides early recognition of favorable and/or unfavorable responses to medications...so that changes, dosage adjustments, or education interventions can be initiated efficiently to achieve the desired therapeutic effect in a way that minimizes discomfort and maximizes positive results.

We encourage you to ask your clinician about the newest developments in the field and what medications have or will emerge in the near future addressing your treatment needs. These sessions are typically 15-25 minutes in length.

Psychotherapy

Our LCSW provides psychotherapy sessions to individuals, couples and families.  Various therapy techniques are used depending on your specific situation and needs. These sessions are generally about one hour in length.
